Sharon Sekhon
Director
Los Angeles based historian, Sharon Sekhon is committed to establishing a central place to disseminate recovered and often overlooked histories of community and strife from a socio-cultural perspective. She is the Founder and Director of the Studio for Southern California History, a project of Community Partners. Sekhon received her Ph.D. in History from the University of Southern California. Examples of her work include A Peoples Guide to Los Angeles with Laura Pulido (2003) and The Holiday Bowl History Project (2004) and "The Los Angeles Anti-Myth and Southern California Sense of Place: Navigating a Mediated Landscape" in Varieties of Urban Experience. (Lanham, MD: University Press of America: 2006).
Nancy Bautista
Program Assistant
Nancy Bautista is currently working towards a BA in Psychology, with a minor in Civic Engagement and Disability Studies, at UCLA. After graduation, she plans on pursuing a Master’s degree in Gerontology at USC. Growing up in Los Angeles has given her a firsthand account of the volatile social dynamics of such a multicultural area. The Studio for Southern California History has become a safe place to share and expand her knowledge on various social issues. Nancy enjoys working within her community and is a Bruin Advisor for UCLA’s Early Academic Outreach Program.
Stephanie Christian
Education and Outreach Coordinator
A native of Southern California, Stephanie's love for its history and people has drawn her to the Studio for Southern California History and its dedication to fostering a sense of community and history among Southern California residents. She received her BA in Art Education with a focus on museum education and is committed to helping bring L.A.'s rich history to life through the Studio's many educational programs. She is an artist whose
work has been featured at the Memphis Gallery in historic downton Santa Ana as well as the Village Arts Fair in San Clemente. Her role as Education and Outreach Coordinator for the Studio allows her to contribute to its mission by assisting in the development and implementation of educational programming such as the "My Neighborhood" photo essay competition, teaching workshops and aiding in the creation of the LA Archive; an online database housing many of the Studio's primary resources to be featured in the upcoming case studies for K-12 students on the Studio's website.
Sandra Uribe
Research Assistant
Ms. Uribe is currently pursuing her PhD in public history from the University of California, Riverside with a focus on mid twentieth century women’s softball in Southern California and using sports as a lens of analysis for gender and race relations. She received her BA in History and Chicano Studies from the University of California Irvine.
